Course Overview

This course offers direct transmission of the San Zhan form from the Chee Kim Thong lineage of Five Ancestors Kungfu.

San Zhan (Three Battles) is a foundational form of Southern Shaolin — yet it is anything but simple. It is a method of developing structure, breath, rooted power, and internal connection that can take a lifetime to refine.

In the Chee Kim Thong lineage inherited by Master Yap, each of the Five Ancestors preserves its own San Zhan form — Tai Zu, LuoHan, White Crane, Monkey, and DaMo.

This course teaches the San Zhan of DaMo — the Fifth Ancestor — which contributes the internal dimension of the art and is regarded as the highest level within the system. This San Zhan is attributed to Bodhidharma, the Great Patriarch and founder of Chan (Zen) Buddhism.

In Shaolin, it is said:

You begin with San Zhan.
And you never finish learning it.

At first, you learn the choreography.
Then the martial expression.
And ultimately, the internal cultivation.

This course guides you through all three layers.

Why San Zhan Matters

Although rooted in Southern Shaolin, San Zhan has influenced multiple martial systems, including various Karate styles.

Its presence across systems reflects its importance:
San Zhan encodes structure, breath, tension and release, internal power, and combative efficiency into a single form.

This is not simply choreography.
It is a method of transformation.

Amazing Teacher
“Master Yap Boh Heong is an amazing teacher. With his teachings, you can develop internal qi in a very fast way. Of course, it takes regular (at best daily) practice to develop it but it is worth the effort. Combine this course with Yan Shou Gong and you will supercharge your development.”

A very good exercise to apply the practice of YSG.
“Now I practice San Zhan every day. I had the chance to participate in excellent training with Maître YAP in France in April and the few corrections that were given to me, allowed me to easily complete the learning. All that remains is work and practice and like in the YSG I discover new details…”
