9. What is Jin? – My Journey EP9

In this episode, I share my understanding of Jin (勁), a term used to describe a specific type of force used in Chinese martial arts. Since traveling throughout Asia filming interviews with numerous Kungfu masters, I have been privileged to learn multiple ways of developing and applying Jin in the internal arts. After experiencing these diverse methods, it soon became apparent that almost every master who shared their knowledge with me used a different process to create Jin (勁) in their system. Furthermore, while each master could profoundly articulate their approach, their understanding of the term varied significantly throughout the various styles I encountered.

Therefore in this video, I share five different examples of Jin used in the internal arts while highlighting the significant differences between Jin (勁) and Li (力). I hope the information I’m sharing can give the viewer a deeper insight into internal martial arts and clear up any misconceptions.

  2. I’m practicing Taiyi Huolong Palm, Bagua Shuangdao and Baguazhang of Master Lu Zijian. I think Jin is kind of energy stored in the body right, especially in the Dantian area. Because when I don’t do meditation and Zhuan Zhang my force is weak, and I don’t have motivation in life. But when I do zhuanzhang and mediation everyday, I feel alive, full of energetic and all my Bagua forms better, too. My question is: Do meditation can increase my Jin?

    1. Another great question. I’m not confident enough to address this subject at the moment as my experience with the marrow washing process is limited. If I ever delve deeper into the practice, then I will make a video talking about it.

      1. yeahh but I mean, just use the one finger, like in one finger shooter zen, like for exemplo you move your arm from above to down like would shot energy from your finger to your candle, I asked this because as you know the fascia method, with the arm relaxed I think that you could easily verify that you can extinguish or on the first moment, make the candle fire move, with more training you can find the correct way to move the arm and extinguish from a more bigger distance. With punch is possible but with finger seems much easier to do that because the jin on the arm traverse until reach the finger.

    I really appreciate what you are doing – very special , because if not – we will lose this information….I think importan to understand what we can do as humans regardless of the origina reasons…..side question – will you please delve into the medical side of the martial arts also – I would like to thank you for all your hard work – it really shows in your videos

      Yes, I hope so too! As they say, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”. Sifu Liang is kindly sharing his methods with me, however, it’s now my responsibility to put in the hard work and train them.

      I will try to cover the medical aspects when possible in the future. Thank you for the suggestion.
