  • How long does it take to devleop iron palm?

I’m pondering the idea of training iron palm and wondered how many minutes each day I should practice and how many months it would take before seeing some results. Would 15 minutes each day be enough? Thank you kindly in advance.

Greetings Alex, It doesn’t take long to see results. My first teacher would hit a wall bag filled with dried chickpeas for 15 minutes every day. He would spend 5 minutes hitting the bag using his fist, 5 minutes striking with his palm, and 5 minutes hitting with the back of his hand. He did this for around one year, and the results were astounding. We gave him the nickname “Marbles” because his knuckles became round and solid like marbles. It became difficult to cross hands with him after he conditioned his hands because if he caught you with his fist, a cut would instantly open up on your face as his knuckles were so pronounced. Good luck, and don’t forget to use some Jow if you begin training.

Splendid, thank you James. I’m planning to begin my training tomorrow to kick off the new year. Hitting a wall bag repeatedly for the next 12 months should help to release the frustration caused by the government and the totalitarian restrictions we’re all currently enduring. Anyhow, I digress. Do you have any suggestions where I can purchase the “Jow” you mentioned?

I now recall that Kieron (martial man) had included a Shaolin Jow recipe in the martial library course. I will download the instructions and attempt to make my own liniment. I suspect it may be more effective than what I can see for sale on Amazon. Let the fun commence.

I would be interested in hearing about the results you get from training on the wall bag and using the recipe you mentioned from this site. Maybe your nickname will be “The Hammer” in the future lol. Check out the Monkey Fist Door guy on youtube for some inspiration. He seems to have achieved a decent standard of Iron Palm. https://youtu.be/krOnhKeYhd8

Impressive iron fist skills were displayed in the video you shared, although I beg to differ that it demonstrates “Qi” (Chi) as portrayed in the publisher’s discourse.

I didn’t start the training yet as the herbs needed to make the conditioning liniment just arrived and currently submerged in alcohol inside a glass jar. I will leave the formula to ferment for a few more weeks before commencing on my endeavors to develop my “iron hammer fists.”

There are many approaches to iron fist/palm. Generally you should start with something like mung beans to fill your bags. In some hard styles the fist, knife edge, backhand/palm ect are done with a rigid/solid hand and the bag is hit with these and some other configurations for a number of reps 50 should do for each config making about 200 strikes per hand. I started with hard style long ago but over time was shown an internal palm method. Jow is very important and takes some time to gain full strength when brewed(6 months) so consider buying a little to get you by until your batch of Martial man formula is ready. It is important to pace yourself properly and use Jow or perment damage can occur. I will make a short vid 1-3 minutes on the hard and soft methods as I was taught as well as the cautions I was given.

Jason, if you’re willing, I would like to see a video of you demonstrating the hard and soft conditioning methods. I have already begun training daily, however it would be helpful to review other methods. Thank you kindly.

I would also like to start this type of training and develop iron fists. Thank you to everyone that has commented here, I’m learning from reading your contributions on this subject.

I mentioned Shao-lin iron palm being a certain way in this video and I want to elaborate as this video was made in haste. When I refer to Shao-lin here I just mean the beginner method as I was taught from just 1 lineage. Even in the lineage I was learning(Li Family) there were many advanced palms that had not been qualified for as each palm has a requisite training/trainings and levels to achieve before the fist/palm is considered “known”. The hard conditioning is usually the first step and then the soft method is practiced as one gains more understanding. My Sifu used balls of iron ore the size or marbles in a basin that he would strike into as one of his practices but few ever take it to that level. Li family specializes in iron palm and iron body taking both to the highest of possible levels even Iron groin and Iron eyeball and golden bell. When punched in the stomach his stomach could suck in your fist and lock you so you couldn’t pull your hand out. I and about 20 students saw him explode(not just crack and split) a coconut freeair between his palms that we had just chosen and inspected ourselves. All of this is contained in high level Shao-Lin so I did not mean to downplay Shaolin methods.

Part 2: Wouldn’t you agree that it seems even more impressive when a lady displays these skills or is it just me?

In all honesty, I struggled to watch this lady kicking the iron bar. Clearly she has mastered some impressive iron body skills.

Would you care to elaborate on which parts of the video are what you deem as fake? The clip of the lady kicking the iron bar certainly looks authentic. I sincerely doubt most could kick metal in such a manner without later hospitalization and retirement from martial arts.
